Past events

THE ANNUAL GARAGE SALE August 18 and 19, 2012, was a great success. Thank you to everyone who donated, helped set up, sell, and take down. We hope to see you all again next year!

WHO IS THIS GUY?

Ryan Knowles, that’s who! Ryan has been CCR’s most generous contributor for the last five years. He has donated thousands of dollars to support our TNR program and this year was no exception — Ryan donated $2,500.00 just before Christmas this year (which we immediately shared out between the vet clinics!) Great Christmas gift for all of us — we are so grateful to have Ryan as a friend.

CRAM THE VAN!

We “Crammed the Van”  on Saturday, December 31, 2011.  The wonderful people in this community absolutely filled the Dodge Caravan with cat food for our feral colonies, and went on to fill the collection jars with money for our vet bills! Thank goodness for the coin counters at Island Savings Credit Union — there were several hundred dollars in coin donated! The first deliveries of food have gone out and cheques have been sent to the vet clinics and we are very very grateful to everyone who participated.

As usual, all of the proceeds of this event go to supporting our feral colonies and to support our spay and neuter program
by helping to pay down our vet bills. This is very important this year, as due to
the very strange weather we have experienced this year we are actually still
seeing new born kittens in the feral colonies and our foster homes are all
still full of late kittens. We have never had so many kittens so late in the
year before – and this means that at a time when we are normally paying off the
summer vet bills this year we are still running them up spaying and neutering
all these little ones!

Christmas Craft Fair  December 3, 2011

Shawnigan Lake Community Hall, 10:00 t0 4:00

We had a craft table at the Shawnigan Craft Fair on Saturday. If you missed our Fair, then please come out to Shawnigan to see what we have to offer.

SPAY-GHETTI & NO BALLS DINNER

Christmas Craft Fair  November 18 and 19, 2011

The Spay-Ghetti & No Balls Dinner, November 19, 2011

Well, we survived another Craft Fair and the Spay-Ghetti & No Balls Dinner!

We want to thank every one who participated in any way, donating, selling, buying, entertaining or any of the dozens of other things that make these events so much fun. Special thanks to our musicians — Tropic Mayhem played for us on Saturday afternoon and had everyone moving and laughing and Roxxlyde played at the dinner on Saturday night  and got an amazing number of people up dancing! We are talking about future events involving these great guys. If you get a chance to see either group perform do not miss it!

Once again, huge thanks to the staff of Duncan Animal Hospital, who turned out to work in the kitchen and served the Spay-Ghetti dinner! With expert help from Michelle Tothill and Marie Hanley, we ran a pretty efficient operation!

Due to circumstances beyond our control we had to cancel the art and quilt auction we had planned. We still have those items, so watch for an event involving those maybe in the New Year.

Lori Matthews walked the Great lake Walk for us! Thank you, Lori!

ANNUAL GARAGE SALE AUGUST 13 &14

Our annual sale was a great success — over $1,800.00 in sales and donations to be applied to our summer vet bills! What a wonderful result, for all the hard work put in by our great volunteers and donors!

2011 Spay Day

A great success! 29 cats spayed or neutered, vaccinated and tattooed, and sent home to sleep it off!  We are so grateful to our wonderful vets in the Valley. This year the special thanks go to the vets, staff and volunteers at Duncan Animal Hospital. It was a very good day!

More thanks go to the excellent people from Slice of Life Pizza, who came in on their day off to create and deliver the best pizza in Duncan for our lunch! What a generous thing to do!

And we loved the delivery vehicle, too! Check this out!

CHRISTMAS PARTY & SPAY-GHETTI DINNER!

November 13, 2010, at the Moose Lodge, 2244 Moose Road, Duncan.

We had a wonderful time at our party! There are so  many people to thank — everyone who came to the craft fair and to the Spay-ghetti dinner; everyone who donated goods and services; everyone who worked before, during and after the event to provide materials, to set up and take down, to man the tables, to serve and clean up. Special thanks to Maureen, our irreplaceable event coordinator, to Cody, who supervised the kitchen, to Will Ferguson , Will Millar, and the other wonderful musicians who had people up and dancing!

We are actually looking forward to doing this again next year!

Scrap Metal Drive Ended September 30, 2010!**

scaprmetal

Scaprmetal

We were very pleased with the number of people who donated scrap metal to our cause. At the end of the drive we received a total of $590.76 — not bad! We plan to try to do it again next year.

More recycling!

Scrap Cellphone

Scrap Cellphone

We have entered an agreement with ThinkRecycle of Canada to collect old cell phones, digital cameras and ink cartridges from printers for recycling. We collect them and ship them; they pay us for them and then recycle them in a completely environmentally friendly way.

We will be putting a few collection boxes out into the community — the first one will be at the Laughing Llama convenience store — and in the meantime any of these items can be dropped off at Duncan Pets for us to pick up or call us if you have a good collection of them saved up.

We are hoping this will turn into as valuable a source of income as the Bottle Depot is for us. (But don’t stop taking your refundables to the Bottle Depot and donating the proceeds to Cowichan Cat Rescue!)

Saturday,August 14 — Garage Sale

The garage sale was well attended, bringing in $1,100.00 for our programs. Since this was bigger and better than last year, it looks like this may be turning into an annual event. Special thanks to all those who donated time, energy, tents and merchandise. We could not do this without a great deal of your help!

July 24- Hot Dogs and Workouts

The hot dog sale at Thrifty’s was a great success and a lot of fun. Who
knew eight dozen people would stop for a hot dog and a chat! Special
thanks to our crew of volunteers — Nicole, Kellie, Alexis, Alisa and
Sascha, who made it all fun.

Dominica’s six hour work out at Curves was a smashing success –
Dominica completed all six hours and raised over $1,300.00 for Cowichan Cat
Rescue! Congratulations to Dominica and to all the lucky people who won
prizes in the draw, and huge thanks to Curves and to everyone who
pledged, worked out with Dominica, donated goodies to the bake sale, or
just came to offer their support. We are so grateful to you all!

May Spay Day!

Spayed Cats

Spayed Cats

Our May 2nd Low-Cost Spay Day was a great success — 17 spays and 12 neuters. Huge thanks to Cobble Hill Animal Hospital and our volunteers for an excellent clinic.

One or two cats per household were spayed or neutered for the sum of $15.00 per cat.

2009 Christmas Craft Fair and Party

The Craft Fair and Party was a lot of fun and a wonderful success for
Cowichan Cat Rescue! Our vets will be pleased!

The winners of the Wolf Prints were Janet Roach and Neil Stuart and we
congratulate both of them. Thanks to everyone who bought tickets and our
good friends who sold them for us.

We also want to thank all the businesses and individuals who donated
items to make our silent auction and our basket raffle so successful. We
could not have this event without your generous support.

And finally, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who came to our
Party and supported our cause. You made this event the success it was.

We are going to take a break over Christmas and will be refreshed and
ready to plan new events in the New Year. Watch for our ads and
announcements in the Buy Sell and Trade!

The Halloween Haunted House

It was a huge success and we are thrilled to
report that admissions and donations brought us $554.00 and a lovely
collection of cat food and litter. We want to thank Helen and Diana
Matthews for staging this wonderful event!

GREAT LAKE WALK September 19, 2009

Lelana completed the Walk in good time and raised $1,700.00 for Cowichan Cat Rescue! We are dazzled and so very grateful! And much to our surprise, we had a second walker collecting pledges for CCR. Kathleen Branting also completed the Walk and had pledges which came to $500.00! Way to go!

We are so impressed by the efforts made by these good people that we would like to challenge other willing walkers to walk for CCR next year. If you are interested, then we will be more than willing to help with your publicity.

GIANT GARAGE SALE September 20, 2009

Garage Sale Gorilla!

The garage sale enjoyed sunny skies and a steady supply of bargain hunters, including the lady in the picture.[attached] We took in almost $800.00 which represents slightly better than 4 spays and 3 neuters, plus vaccinations for those cats. It all helps!
