Feral Cat

Feral Cat

Cowichan Cat Rescue was formed in 1999 when we found “Rocky,” an old, sick feral cat desperately in need of help and discovered there was no help available for such cats in the Cowichan Valley.**
Cowichan Cat Rescue is a federally registered charity operated by a Board of Trustees and a group of volunteers dedicated to improving life for homeless cats in the Cowichan Valley.
Cowichan Cat Rescue operates a “trap, neuter, and return” program (a “TNR” program) for feral and wild cats. Cats are trapped and taken to one of the many local vets who support our program, where they are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, checked over and treated for parasites, and then returned to the place where they were trapped.
After their return, the cats are provided whenever possible with a regular supply of food so they are no longer in danger of starving when hunting gets bad in the winter months.

LOW COST SPAY/ NEUTER PROGRAM UPDATE

Due to budget constraints the Cowichan Valley Regional District did not renew the funding for our low cost program for 2013. As a result we have had to suspend the program until such time as we obtain further funding. We are searching for alternate funding for this essential program but so far have not been successful. We do have the satisfaction of knowing that almost 200 cats were fixed through this program in the last two years and the births of thousands of kittens has been prevented. We are hoping that we will be able to start up again in the not too distant future.

We are always up to something in the fund raising department, so be sure to check out our Events Page for what’s new!

We are happy to report that with some privately donated money, Rocky got the medical attention he needed and lived the final days of his life in comfort, surrounded by affection, warmth and food. Such should be the life of every cat.
